Supporting Help For HeroesBY DANIEL CLARK
Mercer Scaffolding were proud to play their part in the Hero Ride, supporting the fantastic Help For Heroes charity. Continuing the trend from last year, Mercer again provided the bike rails and crowd control gates at the Blackheath meeting point. The team also prepared it very own DIY Hero Ride cycling 40 miles from Longfield to the Horse Guards Parade. This included a stop at Blackheath to join a thousand other riders from across the country. As a token of respect they also towed a purpose built scaffold tower weighing approximately 120kg. This presented challenges along the route and a very memorable ride up Shooters Hill, Greenwich. Despite many obstacles the team successfully arrived at the Horse Guards Parade with the tower in one piece.
Scaffolder Justin Chesham gave his thoughts on the experience: “Proud to be part of the Mercer team on our Hero Ride. Fantastic effort by everyone involved for such a brilliant cause. Very proud moments being cheered through Whitehall paying respects at the Cenotaph. Respect, cheers and applause everyone received finishing the ride through The Mall onto the Horse Guards Parade. Look forward to going one better next year after this superb dedicated team effort. Lest we forget, let us remember, they gave their tomorrow for our today. We will remember them”. Mercer Scaffolding would like to thank everyone who supported and participated in our Hero Ride, helping us to raise over £3,500. Soon we will be forming an official partnership with the Help For Heroes charity and at next years Hero Ride we will be going bigger and better, cycling from Longfield to Windsor. If you are interested in joining us then please do get in touch! |

"As scaffolders we work physically each day and rely on being fit to perform our jobs. This is by no means comparable to the job of a soldier but it does lead to us having the greatest of respect and compassion for our service men and women who may of had this taken away from them in the line of duty. We believe that the Help for Heroes charity provides fantastic support for these brave individuals, therefore we want to be involved and play our part".

Pit-Mounted Weighbridge Investment
BY DANIEL CLARK
|
Mercer Scaffolding have invested in a 15 meter by 3 meter pit-mounted weighbridge for their main depot in Longfield, Kent. The decision was made to contract experts John Maguire & Sons to manufacture the weighbridge due to their outstanding reputation for building quality, durable and long lasting machinery. They also teamed up with trusted groundworks specialists GJ Simmonds for pit creation, concreting and drainage needs.
The weighbridge will serve the business in terms of both vehicle weight compliance and vehicle loading utilisation. The output of data from the weighbridge through its digital indicator, ticket printer and visual display will be extremely useful for ensuring that vehicles operated adhere to rules and regulations regarding vehicle gross and axle weights. New information will be available to the team highlighting equipment weights at different locations. This data will be used to make an informed decision on the type of lorry to send for the striking of scaffold.
